Thirty Years of Faith and Memories | Anniversary | Selbourne Park, zimbabwe
The weekend of 19-20 April 2025 was a highlight for the Selbourne Park Christian Church, which was celebrating the 30th anniversary of its building. Through songs, testimonies and memories, members of the church came together to remember how far they’ve come.
On Saturday, the celebration began with a touching look back at the beginnings of the church. Alumni from the early years shared their memories in a documentary combining archive footage and personal accounts. Simple moments, sometimes funny or moving, allowed everyone to see how much this church has grown, not only in numbers, but also in scope, touching lives far beyond its walls through those who have left to serve elsewhere.
In the afternoon, Pastor Miki Hardy shared a word entitled ‘Why me, Lord?’ Starting with the call of Moses, he reminded us that God often chooses those whom no one would have chosen. Moses, David, Peter or Paul were not qualified in the eyes of the world, but God called them by grace. This message encouraged everyone to remain humble and grateful, because serving God is neither a reward nor a merit, but only a testimony of his grace towards us.
On Sunday, in the second part of her message, Miki addressed another facet of this question: why does God allow trials? Using the example of Job, he invited the congregation to see difficult times not as punishments, but as opportunities for faith and growth. Jesus himself accepted the cross, and it was through his obedience that he overcame. The key is to trust God even when we don’t understand everything.
As the moments passed, between memories and sharing the Word, gratitude and hope, hearts turned to God with gratitude. Thirty years of fidelity, growth and transmission – and renewed confidence for the journey ahead.
